Axie Infinity, popular play-to-earn crypto game, have launched a version of their latest game, Axie Infinity: Origins, on Apple’s App Store that does not necessitate the purchase of NFTs by users.
Catching mainstream interest
Axie Infinity: Origins is a card-based game that offers players a set of non-NFT “starter” creatures known as Axies, as opposed to the original game that requires players to purchase or rent NFTs to play. This version of the game is designed to attract traditional gamers who do not want to buy NFTs to join the Axie Infinity world. Players can purchase additional Axies within the lite game, which can be converted into NFTs in the future and migrated onto the main Axie Infinity platform.
Axie Infinity: Origins was previously available to a limited set of users through the Google Play store and the Mavis Hub, which was created by the founder of Axie Infinity. The game’s debut on the Apple App Store means that it is now accessible to users in Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
$AXS trading volume increased
As soon as the app store listing was announced, the native ERC-20 token of Axie Infinity, $AXS, saw an immediate positive response. According to crypto data provider CoinMarketCap, the token surged by 16%, and trading volume increased by almost 10 times. Smooth Love Potion (SLP), the in-game token for Axie, saw a slight increase of 4.2%, but it is still down by over 99% from its peak in July 2021.
